Modi Government to Make Generic Medicines Mandatory

MODI GOVERNMENT TO MAKE GENERIC MEDICINES MANDATORY

Modi Government to Make Generic Medicines Mandatory

The Modi government is keen on making treatment cheaper for the poor people of India. While opening a new hospital in Surat, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi said that the government will make laws to instruct the doctors to prescribe generic names for medicines, rather than mentioning brand name for a composition of medicine. It will help poor people to get the cheaper option of medicine and the sale of costly medicines will see a low if this law is implemented.

The government already has schemes to distribute cheaper generic drugs to the poor from the government hospitals; still there is no mandate for the doctors to prescribe the generic names. The Prime Minister says that the government has already pressured the pharma companies to produce medicines and equipments at low cost to make treatment more affordable; the PM also said that this decision will spur rages amid the pharma industry.

However, the government is more sincere about the interest of the poor. Already it has given several financial benefits to the poor like easy banking schemes and insurance schemes. The government wants to make living affordable for the poor.
